Assistive Listening Systems
Assistive Listening Systems (ALSs) are sometimes called Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs). ALDs are amplification systems designed specifically to help people hear better in a variety of difficult listening situations. They separate the sounds, particularly speech, that a person wants to hear from background noise. They improve what is known as the “speech to noise ratio.”
There are many types of ALDs to assist those with hearing loss to communicate better via a phone (there are products for land lines and cell phones), hear the television more clearly, and feel more secure and independent with amplified and light equipped alarm clocks and fire alarms. At Hear Now Audiology & Tinnitus Services, we work with Oaktree Products, a distributor of quality hearing healthcare products. They sell many types of ALDs, but have put together a very convenient brochure which they call SIMPLY THE BEST - a collection of what they consider the best products on the market today.
